A persona is a named person or character plus reference photos. When you generate an AI thumbnail using a persona, those photos guide the generation so the same face appears every time.
Why this matters
Channel recognition is built on visual consistency. If viewers can identify your thumbnail from the corner of their eye, you have an advantage that no single clever image can buy.
Without a persona, AI generation produces a different person on every thumbnail — which quietly costs you that recognition.
Setting one up
- Open Personas in Thumbnail Studio.
- Create a persona and give it a name.
- Upload 1 to 4 reference photos.
More reference photos, and more varied ones, produce more consistent results. Aim for clear, well-lit shots from slightly different angles rather than four near-identical images.
You can keep up to 8 personas on your account.
Using one
Select the persona when generating an AI thumbnail image. Generation will keep that face consistent with your references.
Good candidates for a persona
- You, if you appear in your own thumbnails
- A co-host or regular guest
- A recurring character or mascot
Availability
Personas require Plus or Pro, since they're used at AI generation time.
Reference photos are stored on your account and used only to generate your own thumbnails.
